Photoshop can import AI files, but an error will occur
Normally, importing AI files into Photoshop, it'd:
- Convert it into a smart object
- Not throw error messages
- Place it in your active document.
Using CCC to drag an AI file into Photoshop, will instead give you the following results:
- Import it as it was any other image (not a smart object)
- It'll always throw an error message
- It'll always make a new document
However, it's worth noting that - given the same document - both local and from the DAM, Photoshop will save the two in almost the same quality inside a PSD document.
This means that, using the connector to retrieve AI files into PSD documents, you will get the same quality as what you'd do using the "native" ways.
