search is what is used for (almost) all data extraction in the DAM Center and related products. 

search can be equated to an extremely flexible API, in that the Input of a search defines what parameters are supplied and what kind of Filterare applied before any data is returned; the Output of a search defines what data is returned

 

The Search Editor is the part of the DAM Center, which is used to edit any search.

The Search Editor can be found under System tools → Config Manager → expand the version tree to choose a product → choose product version → select the tab "Searches" (or something similar depending on the selected language).
